Just down the road from where I live and work is Bradwell on Sea. There has been information in the local press recently about one of the new Nuclear Reactors being built there. There is already a nuclear power station on the site though it stopped generating in 2002, has been fully defueled and is now in the process of being decomissioned.

The local council still maintains some form of contingency plans.
I will be using this when teaching the ‘Old’ GCSE Managing Resources.

My local Nuclear Power Stations are at Dungeness which was mysteriously missed off the recent list. The Shepway Council is saying it will miss £3 million a year contribution to the local economy. The proposed site fits within the current footprint so encroaching on the nearby SSSI could be said to not be a factor.
However, some people might think that by not having a new nuclear installation it reduces one serious objection to the proposed expansion of the airport nearby at Lydd. And that will impact on the SSSI and more.
Complex, eh?
